Have you ever thought about stepping into the shoes of a director? Want to get some hands on directorial experience under your belt? Well, our Technical Direction Workshop is for you!
Led by the brilliant Stephen Fagan who has successfully directed DMDS productions Chess 2024, Made In Dagenham 2025-- and will soon get cracking on our 2026 production, Guys and Dolls- this workshop offers a unique opportunity to dive deeper into the creative process of staging a musical.
Over THREE FOCUSED EVENINGS at Harold National Boys School Dalkey, you'll step into the role of Director, working from a script of a musical written for amateur theatre. Using Pavilion Theatre’s stage plans as an example space, you’ll explore all of the technical elements involved in shaping a musical production long before rehearsals even begin.
You will tackle directorial areas such as:
- Blocking and staging key scenes
- Designing full set plans
- Developing props and costume ideas
- Creating character breakdowns and personalities
- Planning lighting scenes and visual moods
- Tackling complex scenes with creative solutions
-Pitching one original, never-seen-before idea
Each task will be discussed, developed, and refined together, giving you real insight into the practical, creative challenges of directing amateur theatre. You’ll leave with a complete creative concept — and a stronger foundation for your future on (and off) the stage.
Whether you're an aspiring director, an experienced performer looking to expand your skills, or simply passionate about the craft, this workshop is a must.
