DUn Laoghaire Musical & Dramatic Society (DMDS) brought Made in Dagenham to life on stage at the Pavilion Theatre from Wednesday 9 – Saturday 12 April 2025 (with a Saturday matinee), presenting the inspiring true story of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists’ strike through the eyes of Rita O’Grady. With music by David Arnold, lyrics by Richard Thomas, and a book by Richard Bean, the production follows Rita’s transformation from ordinary working-class woman to remarkable labour leader, uniting her colleagues in a courageous fight for equal pay—using humour, heart, and powerful anthems like “Stand Up” to spark a nationwide call for justice.The staging showcased DMDS’s hallmark blend of community spirit and storytelling prowess. Auditions kicked off months in advance, and the creative team assembled skilled musical, theatrical, and technical crews to bring the story vividly to life. With strong backing from local sponsors, and under the leadership of experienced directors and choreographers, the show resonated as a moving and uplifting testament to ordinary heroes making history—cementing DMDS’s reputation as a cornerstone of Dún Laoghaire’s vibrant theatrical scene .
