DUN LAOGHAIRE MUSICAL & DRAMATIC SOCIETY
Bringing the Community of Dun Laoghaire Together Through Musical Theatre, Choral, and Drama Since 1959
DMDS was originally founded in 1959 by members of the Methodist Church in Dun Laoghaire, united by a passion for theatre, music, and building community through the arts. What began as a small church-based group quickly captured local imaginations, and the society’s reputation for quality and camaraderie helped it grow.
Over the decades, our membership expanded far beyond its founding circle. Today, we welcome people from across Dun Laoghaire, the greater Dublin area, and even County Wicklow, forming a vibrant and diverse community of creatives and supporters.
We’re proud to say that, more than 60 years on, we still rehearse and meet in the Methodist Church hall, honouring our roots while continuing to evolve. In 2003, we embraced a new chapter with a new name: the Dún Laoghaire Musical and Dramatic Society (DMDS)—a reflection of both our expanding reach and the broadening scope of our productions.
From the start, our mission has remained the same: to develop local talent, to foster creativity and connection, and to make memorable theatre magic together.
