DMDS rounded off its 50th year celebrations by winning the 2011 award for best Choral Society choir in Ireland for the 6th successive year.  The award,  the Frank Cullinane Trophy,  is presented by the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) which represents 130 societies, involving about 14,000 people.   At the competition in New Ross, the DMDS choir was directed by Vincent Lynch with support from Des Cox.     The win was a record 6 in-a-row for any society and the pieces performed were Facade,  and Bring him Home.   The Society also won  the Ballyclare Rosebowl trophy for the best Cameo performance (i.e. presentation of a scene from a musical).  The wins were particularly welcomed by DMDS as a culmination to the Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
