DMDS is a 70-strong musical society with a proud tradition of musical performances since 1959. We produce musicals and concerts, compete in choral competitions and also perform at a range of events either as a full choir or in smaller choral groups.
Our membership year starts in early September with a welcome night for new members. For the 2016/17 season we will be competing in the North Wales Choral Festival in Llandudno, Wales in November; and also in the AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross, Co. Wexford in May 2017. We will also be running a concert in early 2017 (details to be announced), and some Christmas events, and we will run regular social sessions for our singers. We plan to resume performing annual musicals in the 2017/18 season. Auditions for membership will be in early September and we usually rehearse on Tuesday nights (8:00pm – 10:00pm) in Dun Laoghaire, and more frequently in the weeks leading up to a performance. The AGM takes place in May/June and elects a committee to run the society for the following year. Information on these events are posted on this website and our Facebook page. We also have a regular program of other activities (Table-Quiz, Singing nights, Carol-singing etc) as fund-raisers and/or social events.
We performed musicals every year from our foundation in 1959 until 2015. A list of our productions is below. Since 2003 these have been performed in the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire. Due to financial difficulties we were unable to perform a full musical show in 2016, but we will put on a concert (see below) and we are actively working on fund-raising with a view to resuming our run of musical productions in early 2018.

Concerts & Other Performances
This year we will run a concert in the Lexicon theatre which will be based on numbers from a popular musical. Details of this are to be announced. We have also performed at charity and local events in the Dún Laoghaire area including the ‘Harbour Summer Sundays‘ programme and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s ‘Centre Stage‘ series at Cabinteely House. We have also formed Anthem Singers as a group for performance at Weddings and Corporate events.
DMDS has an excellent reputation in choir and cameo competitions, and we have won many awards for our Shows. At the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) annual competitions, we have won the Best Choir Competition 10 times in the last 12 years. We have also won the best Cameo (extract from a musical) 4 times in the same period. In 2012 we received 2 AIMS Nominations for our production of Drowsy Chaperone, in competition with 130 other societies. In 2016 we will enter our first international competition at the North Wales Choral Festival.
We are (over) 50 years old! Dún Laoghaire Musical and Dramatic Society was founded in 1959. For our full history see here.
